Wit Licht

ArtEZ 2013
This report was developed in close deliberation with Charlotte Bik, director Art & Design Arnhem, and Wilhelm Weitkamp, director Art & Design Zwolle. In addition this translation, was realised in deliberation with Wilhelm Weitkamp.

From the preface

This document was developed distinctly as a support for the different education course reports. In the various chapters of this report both role and position of the faculty management concerning a specific subject is explained, with added referrals to the different documents available on the subject. Every chapter concludes with a reflective paragraph on the subject matter and a listing of all documents mentioned.

The foundation of this report is the constantly evolving educational philosophy ‘White Light’, which was developed by the faculty in 2010, as an instrument in initiating and realising educational developments, where and when necessary. The structure of that philosophy has now been applied to this report as well, which has resulted in the following. White Light is made up out of three parts, Content, Form and Facilities.
Content concentrates on the similarities between the different courses within art and design, comprised into the three domains of Imagination, Responsibility and Reflection. This Content is addressed more closely in chapter 2 of this report.
The form as intended in ‘White Light’ concerns the didactics and testing methods of the education. These subjects are being addressed in respectively chapter 2 and chapter 6 of this report and both Content and Form are translated to a great extend into the various education course reports.
The Facilities – the personnel, organisational, material and information facilities – are being addressed in chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6.
How the complete educational philosophy is translated into practice, is being unfolded in chapter 1.
In this preface we clarify the current state of the ArtEZ faculty of Art & Design. How does the management view the role of the faculty, what are the context and internal and external factors they are dealing with and finally, how will the faculty evolve towards the future?
